Police Chief Tom Chinn
Tom became the Police Chief for the City of Montrose in 2005. He was born in Delta, Colorado and was raised on a farm / ranch in Cedaredge. He graduated from Cedaredge High School and attended Mesa College, obtaining an associate degree in December 1972.

In April 1973 Tom began his career in law enforcement by working for the City of Montrose. While continuing to work for Montrose Police Department, Tom obtained a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia Southern University and a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Colorado.

Tom is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, a premier Law enforcement management school that attracts law enforcement officers from all over the world. Candidates to the school are selected from thousands of applications.

Tom graduated from Northwestern University Police Staff and Command, a management school for law enforcement officers based in Evanston, Illinois.

Tom has accumulated thousands of hours of training associated with his position and has done every job in the police department during his time he has been employed by the City of Montrose.

Tom and his wife Jeanine have two sons who were raised in Montrose and graduated from Montrose High School. One son is employed by the Colorado State Patrol and the other is a property manager in Boulder, Colorado, area. Tom enjoys reading periodicals associated with law enforcement and management.
